Shell In The Middle East No: 29 April 2005
Issue No. 29 - April 2005
YOUR LETTERS

We would like to thank all of you who sent in letters following the publication of the January edition of 'Shell in the Middle East'. Please feel free to tell us what you think of the magazine, what you would like to see more of and, indeed, less of, and we will try and accommodate as many of your suggestions as we can over the course of time. Here is a selection of your letters...

I am a regular reader of 'Shell in the Middle East'. I think it is a high quality magazine in terms of both content and design. It provides plenty of information on the use of Shell's state-of-the-art technology throughout the region and I also find the more personal interviews very interesting.

However, I am very keen to learn more about Shell's Human Resources strategies in developing its employees to reach board level. So more on Shell's HR procedures please.

Adel Salem Alkaff, Gasco, Abu Dhabi

As a woman, and a regular reader of 'Shell in the Middle East', I am all in favour of women reaching the top in their professions, particularly in the more male-dominated industry sectors.

I recently attended a 'Women in Leadership' Conference in Dubai and was very impressed by the talk given by Ms Iman Hill, Country Chairwoman for Shell Companies in Egypt. To have reached the top of her profession is one thing but to have reached a top job in the oil and gas industry in the Middle East is quite another.

All I can say is that she must be very, very good indeed at her job to have risen so high in such a male-dominated sector. Keep up the good work - and let's have more women in the magazine please.

Ellen Diamond, Abu Dhabi

Editor's note: Please see the Middle East news item on page 27 of this issue for more information on Iman Hill at the 'Women in Leadership' Conference in Dubai. Furthermore, we will be featuring Ms Hill's career in depth in our 'Personally speaking' regular slot in a future edition of 'Shell in the Middle East'.

Thank you for sending me your magazine on a regular basis. I feel that I am receiving good, reliable information about the happenings in the oil and gas industry, not only at regional level but also at an international level. It's good to be kept informed.
Sanu S. Nair, Sharjah

I enjoy 'Shell in the Middle East' very much. However, I would like to see more features on maintenance and more on HSE [Health, Safety & Environment] topics please.
Saleh Tarish, Bahrain

Please could we see more features like the one you ran in the last edition of your magazine entitled 'Exploring the Rub Al-Khali'.

I found it very interesting indeed to read about the South Rub Al-Khali Company's 2D seismic programme in its 210,000 square kilometre contract areas in Saudi Arabia's Empty Quarter.

Talking to the men on the ground who were experiencing the hardships and the satisfaction of exploring for oil and gas in one of the world's harshest landscapes seemed to me to epitomise what the oil and gas industry is ultimately all about.

It's certainly not just all about state-of-the-art technology and push button machinery but about the tough teams who are actually there on the ground and who are prepared to make it all happen.

Tim Maynard, Sharjah

Editor's note: We hope you enjoyed the feature in this edition on pages 42-46 on the airborne survey in the Rub Al-Khali - and we hope to keep the news on this operation coming as activities progress.

As a relatively new reader of 'Shell in the Middle East' I am looking forward to reading more about Shell's activities in my country, Iraq, particularly in the gas industry.
Akeel Hadi Farman, Iraq

I am an eager reader of your magazine and find it to be very informative. However, I also think it would make for a better work/life balance if you could add a few pages of entertainment and leisure features and maybe a competition or two.
Abdul Aziz Ali, Yemen
