| YOUR LETTERS |
We would like to thank all of you who sent in letters following the publication of the January edition of 'Shell in the Middle East'. Please feel free to tell us what you think of the magazine, what you would like to see more of and, indeed, less of, and we will try and accommodate as many of your suggestions as we can over the course of time. Here's a selection of your letters...
I think 'Shell in the Middle East' is one of the most informative magazines in the region. I would also like to see in each issue a profile of a city in the Middle East where Shell operates. Apart from Shell's business activities in the city, the feature could also detail the place's history and civilisation and include a competition about the city so that readers would have the opportunity to be more interactive with the magazine.

I enjoy reading the magazine and would suggest that you include an 'Appointments' column to feature various job opportunities in the industry, both throughout the region and internationally - for example, in the field of process plant operations.

I find many topics in your magazine to be very interesting and informative. However, as a student I would also like the magazine to carry information on job opportunities throughout Shell - as the company is not only one of the world's leading companies but a key player in the Middle East.

Editor's note: Thank you for your suggestions. We will put them to the Editorial Board when we next meet. In the meantime, the best way to keep track of job opportunities within Shell globally is to visit http://www.shell.com and click on 'Jobs & Careers'.

I think 'Shell in the Middle East' is a wonderful magazine and covers most aspects of the petroleum industry well. I found the feature in January's issue entitled 'Gas to Liquids Comes of Age' particularly interesting, with excellent coverage of the signing of the agreement between Qatar Petroleum and Shell to build the world's biggest GTL plant in Qatar.

Editor's note: Thank you for your positive comments.

I look forward to seeing more of Shell in Qatar following the signing of the Gas to Liquid deal at the end of last year...

I would like to read more of the technical aspects of drilling and more on the geology of the region. I particularly appreciated the feature you ran in the last edition on Underbalanced Drilling.
I have one small criticism, however. Where are all the women? There are many of us who have studied engineering and I would like to see more female faces in the magazine.

Editor's note: I am a woman too - so I'm on your side! However, we report on what we find and we do not go out of our way to seek out women in the industry merely for the sake of putting a female faces in the magazine. That said, if they are there in the story, with an active part to play, we are more than happy to give them the full coverage they deserve.

I enjoy reading the magazine but would welcome, at times, a rather more critical approach to Shell's activities in the region. For example, there must be times when Shell's operations do not go well, or the company loses a deal to a competitor. It may not be good for the public relation to detail any negative aspects to Shell's business in the region - but it would give the magazine an even sharper edge.

Editor's note: Point taken! But how many companies publishing a magazine featuring news of their business activities and those of their partners would not want to focus on the good news and on the very positive aspects of doing business throughout the region?
